Barney is a seasoned R&D specialist with deep expertise in construction and engineering. From multinational contractors to innovative SMEs, he’s helped businesses of all sizes maximise their R&D tax relief – guiding clients through complex legislation with clarity and confidence. With a background in civil engineering and years of hands-on site experience, Barney brings a sharp technical eye and a practical mindset to every claim.

Before joining Kene, he held roles as a structural and site engineer, and later led engineering design projects before moving into R&D consultancy. He’s especially proud of securing funding for Tier 1 contractors, supporting growing businesses through cash flow challenges, and successfully resolving a long-running HMRC enquiry in the client’s favour.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find Barney on a ski slope, at a rooftop bar or road-tripping across France. He’s also a wakeboarder, occasional skydiver and a pretty handy guitarist.
